This song is the entire reason this album is happening. While we were being filmed for the "Gears and Gasoline" documentary about "Getting to Know Regular Car Reviews", Ben Thorn asked me to play something on my guitar, so I whipped out one of my notebooks, which happened to have some random lyrics I'd written.
I had no melody to go with it, but I just started playing, and sang the lyrics on the sheet. That's what went in the documentary, and I got a bunch of emails and messages asking if there was a full version of it, and if I'd put out an album with it.
The song ended up being used for the Ford Focus RS review, which was Ben's car, which led to an increase in messages asking if I was ever going to release the damn song. I had originally recorded a version of this song during my session at 2mp Studios, but I could never get it right. Byron did a wonderful job producing it, but I just didn't think I hit any of the notes correctly. It speaks a lot to Byron's talent that he made it sound as solid as it did, but I just wasn't happy with my own performance. So I took another crack at it at home, assuming it may have been nerves. So while the audio quality isn't necessarily studio worthy here, I'm much happier with how I sound, since I can actually hit the notes I was missing in the studio.

Lyrics:
Once upon a time I was into you
You were into dudes, now you're into Sue
You said this isn't ever gonna work out in the way you think
So I hit the gym, then I hit the hay
But I end up eating feelings when I hit buffets
But at least I have a bunch of different stories I can tell my shrink
Your car is cool, but I'm okay
I don't need another headache today
Symmetrical faces are kinda nice
But the kind I like
Are the kind like mine
Where it's kinda lopsided but someone will love you anyway
Anyway
But what kind of person needs self-esteem?
When you don't need anybody but yourself to dream
You don't need another person here to tell you that you'll be okay
Hoy in Spanish means "Today"
I can still remember in the afternoon
When we drank all of our coffee in an empty room
Two people in a place that you could hardly call a French cafe
Cream and coffee, chocolate scones
Butter toffee, student loans
Coffee's stale, feeling sick
But I had a lovely time and my name is Nick
But we never spoke again and that's fine by me
I don't care about your father's Porsche 953
I mean, I guess I do?
Your car is cool, but I'm okay
I don't need another headache today
Symmetrical faces are kinda nice
But the kind I like
Are the kind like mine
Where it's kinda lopsided but someone will love you anyway
Anyway
But what kind of person needs self-esteem?
When you don't need anybody but yourself to dream
You don't need another person here to tell you that you'll be okay
Hoy in Spanish means "Today"
Symmetrical faces
Are kinda nice, are kinda nice
But I find myself in places
I recognize
Like those eyes
Fell in love once on a southwest flight
I'm like an Eagle Eye Cherry how I save tonight
Not Mr. Right, I'm Mr. Right Now
Forget I said a thing, you really trying to fight now?
I wish I could redesign tattoos
Maybe turn her name into a Japanese haiku
She drama, like Bobby Brown in New Edition
I didn't like her issues so I canceled my subscription
But I'm a lover not a fighter moonlighting as a writer
The light at the end of the tunnel's getting brighter
Change your plans up
Put your hands up
Pretend it's a song for a lighter
Symmetrical faces are kinda nice
But the kind I like
Are the kind like mine
Where it's kinda lopsided but someone will love you anyway
Anyway
But what kind of person needs self-esteem?
When you don't need anybody but yourself to dream
You don't need another person here to tell you that you'll be okay
Hoy in Spanish means "Today"
